Butter tarts are well-known in Canada (as are Nanaimo bars). Do not know why they by no means caught on within the US.
Butter tarts
1/4c smooth butter
1/4c packed brown sugar
1/2c corn syrup
vanilla
1 egg
1/2c raisins (soak in sizzling water for 30min)
With a picket spoon, cream butter & sugar. Add syrup & vanilla. Combine. Add egg and blend effectively.
Pat raisins dry and divide amongst 12 tart shells. Spoon in filling. Bake 400°F for 18-19min.
